CR was awarded the internal installation and adsorbent loading of the Parex chambers for OMPL by Larsen & Toubro Ltd. ONGC Mangalore Petrochemicals Ltd is a Joint Venture between ONGC and MRPL, and is located inside the Special Economic Zone being developed in Mangalore.
The Parex chambers at OMPL were by far one of the largest ever handled by CR, measuring 8 Meters in Diameter and producing 900,000 Tonnes of Paraxylene per year; approximately 2,465 tonnes a day.
The project was executed by the CR Middle East team with local support from Plant Tech. The OMPL Parex project was like a home coming for CR in India considering that CR undertook the initial dense loading of the Hydrocrackers of the Phase 2 Refinery expansion project for MRPL way back in 1999. Incidentally, Steve Brookland took part in the 1999 commissioning of the HCU reactors, and was also a member of the Parex team.
The CR OMPL team was comprised of Steve Brookland, Kevin Spears, Ullas Nayak, Atul Naik, Vishnu Sharma, Balakrishna Pillai, Pavithran Karuvan, Deepak Pranosh, Deepak Giri, Sujith Alva, Haneef Payaniga, Pacchu, Lawrence, and Ashok Yadav, who all did a great job in undertaking the installations and loading of the adsorbent.
The entire project was planned and executed to perfection, beating the onset of Monsoons in the Western Indian region. The job was completed with no safety incidents and on schedule to the full satisfaction of our client L&T, the owner OMPL, and Licensor UOP.
